Diploma work
[The
main aim of my thesis is to show that it is possible to overcome fear (of
water) with the aid of photos.
I focus on fear, its essence and
different forms of fear. I perused articles and literature on water symbolism
to understand if the fear of water is based on the myths and symbols gathered
in our subconsciousness (e.g. do we fear deep water just because it is deep or
are we afraid of the danger what might be down there). I also concentrate on
relationships between pictures (as physical recordings from the past) and fear
to understand if and how they can influence each other.
In
the practical work I staged five underwater photos about most common fears
concerning water (deep and muddy water, algae, fish and fear of drowning). In
these photos I simulated environments similar to the viewers fears but
presented them as beautiful and peaceful. So, the viewers can rethink their
fears and come a step closer to rationalize them. Every picture has its own
story that speaks to every person individually. ]
